Welcome to the on-line home of the Colgate Thirteen Alumni Association.
The Crust Net Web site has been developed to create a repository of the Colgate Thirteen's music, a directory of its people, and a place to begin to record its traditions. An application of this sort has been on the minds of several people recently, and I've had help from several people putting this together, most notably Cris Johnson, who has digitized and uploaded almost all the music you'll find in the Albums section.
Crust Net is being developed in two phases. During the first phase -- information gathering -- we'll be adding to the database people, songs, albums, music, etc. I am hoping that most Crust will register on the site during this phase and add their own information, indicating which albums they sang on, what solos they had, adding photographs (then and now), and providing contact information. The goal is to have CrustNet maintained by each of us, not one of us.
Please don't add other people to the database. Once most living alumni have registered on the site, I will upload information regarding the rest. Ultimately, the site will list every person who ever has been a member of the Colgate Thirteen (including Honorary Members).
It is important to point out that all personal information will available only to registered visitors, so what you put in here will not become publicly available over the Internet. Also, I receive an email each time someone registers and can check it against the Alumni list I have -- people who attempt to register but who were not in the Colgate Thirteen quickly will be removed.
In addition to information about people, I am making every effort to make every recorded Thirteen performance available for download. Currently, we have music going back as far as 1950. More will be added as it is found or is digitized. (By the way, we will not be putting up complete downloads for CDs still in print, as this could cut into the current group's revenues. However, we will give you a link to those CDs so you can buy them.)
The second phase of the site will be memory gathering. During this phase, I'll be asking people to send in stories, upload photos, and help to create a repository of Thirteen memories.
I've already had some excellent ideas regarding additional features we can add to this site. We'll get to them over time, so please let me know when you think of something that should be included.
Last, I think I've crushed most of the bugs in this application, but there's no testing that can compete with real-world use. If you find any problems (even typos), please send me a note using the "bugs / suggestions" link at the bottom of each page. (It shows up only after you register.)
And there you have it. Please be patient as this is being developed. And if you have not done so already, please in but in.
